The interim injunction issued to prevent the execution of the death penalty is extended




The Supreme Court today issued an interim injunction ordering the death penalty to be extended till December 10.
The order was issued when 12 fundamental rights petitions were filed before the Supreme Court seeking an order to prevent the death penalty from being implemented.
Accordingly a three member bench headed by Justice Buwaneka Aluvihare stated that the petitions will be taken up before a full bench headed by the Chief Justice.
The Commissioner of Prisons, the Attorney General and the Minister of Justice have been named as respondents in the petition.
